The fungus Candida Albicans can affect the vagina and its external part (lips). By the contrary of what most people think, it's a common disease and it has nothing to do with venereal diseases.
It's a disturbing and unpleasant disease, but it can be treated easily with medicine, as long as you follow the instructions of a professional. The symptoms that make us aware of the presence of this fungus are irritation, burning, redness in the vulva and increase of discharge follow with bad strong smell of the same.
The causes of vaginal mycosis are plenty and the most important are the following:
Hormonal changes. Hormonal balance of women is very sensitive and it changes easily. Taking contraceptives, corticoids, our period, pregnancy and even stress produce some changes that produce this infection.
Antibiotics. Using certain antibiotics help to increase this fungus and therefore the possibility of suffering from mycosis is bigger.
Diseases. Some chronic diseases like diabetes give this fungus a bigger possibility to increase and grow.
Food. Not eating properly, rather we eat more or less, also causes that the Candida fungus appears.
Personal hygiene. The hygiene of our vaginal area, rather we over do it or not at all, change our flora and normal defense mechanism, this is why we recommend using neutral soaps, without any type of smell or deodorant. It is necessary to
change our underwear every day and dry it properly (with toilette paper or a clean towel) after going to the bathroom.
Cloth. Synthetic cloth or too tight cloth causes a moist and worm environment, ideal for the fungus to spread. Especially when it comes to underwear and panty hoses. To use cotton underwear and not too tight cloth is better.
Tampons or IUD. This instruments can hurt or modify our vaginal flow increasing the possibility of having mycosis.
The fact that we've suffered from vaginal mycosis doesn't mean that this infection won't happen again, but if you try these basic cares, we will help preventing yeast infection.
